The last thing you want to worry about if your courier van is involved in a road traffic accident is that there may be a problem in your insurance provider meeting the claim. Well, in that respect, we hope that the following statistics from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) goes some way to putting your mind at rest.

A few days ago, the above organisation revealed that, last year, providers of motor insurance in the UK paid out the highest amount in a year since it began to keep records that go back as far as 2013.

A staggering £9.9 billion was paid out in 2023 to meet legitimate claims on motor insurance policies. This figure is 18% more than was paid out in 2022 when £8.4 billion was paid out by motor insurers. You will no doubt share our view that this is a huge sum of money. It is no doubt one of the many reasons why the cost of insuring a motor vehicle increased by a large amount in the last 12 months or so.

The cost of carrying our repairs to motor vehicles that had been damaged in road traffic accidents last year came to a huge £6.1 billion. How does that compare with the previous year? Well, in 2022, the amount paid out to meet such claims came to £4.7 billion with this being a rise of 31%. We are sure that you will agree that is a very big increase.

Last year, insurance companies met 2.3 million motor insurance claims. This was a 10% rise when compared with 2022.

Unless you have been very fortunate, it is quite likely that you will have seen the cost of insuring your courier vehicle go up at renewal. At least reading the above will hopefully have given you some consolation that should you need to submit a legitimate claim on your courier insurance policy it will hopefully be paid out.
