If you are running your own courier service and you are the only person involved in delivering parcels your income is likely to be based upon the number of parcels that you deliver. Therefore, there is the temptation to take on as much work as possible especially in the current economic climate with many peoples’ household expenditure ever increasing.

However, you need to make sure that you do not take on too much work to a point where it becomes dangerous to be driving your van. There is no point in increasing your income at the expense of, for instance, becoming so tired that you make a mistake whilst driving resulting in a road traffic accident. The repercussions could be quite severe and far outweigh any benefit in increasing your income.

If you are tired then you are possibly more likely to accidentally break the speed limit and either get caught by a fixed speed camera or be pulled over by a policeman. The penalty for speeding is severe often involving a fine and points on your driving license. As a courier driver who needs a vehicle to run his or her courier business you really do not want to start accumulating penalty points on your driving license.

If you are tired and stressed because you have taken on too much work when you call at a customer’s home or business premises to deliver a parcel you may not come over very well to the customer and this could impact on your business as far as repeat business goes.

Try to take breaks whilst out on the road. Easier said than dome but do attempt to do this as this may help you deal with the workload. Having said that though, ideally, you should make sure that the amount of work you take on for the day is easily manageable. In doing so, hopefully, you will still be able to build a successful business.
