A large percentage of courier drivers possibly also own a family salon or hatchback car that he or she is also responsible for insuring. If that is the case then we have some good news for some of you.
Periodically, Confused.com that is a very well known price comparison website, produces its car insurance price index and the most recent one published covering the period to February 2026 makes for potentially pleasing reading for some motorists. This is because, according to the above index, the average cost of car insurance here in the UK has reduced for yet another period with premiums averaging £711 per annum. This is £66 per annum lower than a year ago representing a fall of an average of 9%.
For the last few years, an awful lot of people in the UK and further afield have been going through a difficult time financially with household expenditure increasing. So, any potential good news from a family budget point of view has got to be well received.
Whilst the above index is to do with car insurance, it would be nice to find that the average cost of courier insurance has also been coming down.
There are a number of things that dictate how much you pay for motor insurance such as age and where you live. For instance, as far as age is concerned, on average it is the young driver who tends to be less experienced as far as driving is concerned that pays more for car insurance than a mature motorist. For example, a 17 year old pays on average £1,741 per annum and an 18 year old an average of £2,082 per annum. Compare that with someone aged between 20 to 29 paying an average of £1,284 per annum and someone aged between 40 to 49 paying an average of £686 per annum and you can see the difference.
Another thing that has an effect upon how much your car insurance company charges you to insure your car is where you happen to live. If you live in Inner London then, on average, you will pay more to insure your car with premiums averaging £1,093 per annum. In Merseyside premiums average £804 per annum.
