Whilst this post relates to the average premium paid by motorists to insure a car it is quite possible that a lot of courier drivers who use a van to drop of parcels and other things also possess a car. In any event, it may be that not only have car insurance premiums been falling in the last couple of years but also that the cost of courier insurance may also have got cheaper.
Every quarter, the Confused.com Car Insurance Price Index is published in which it tells you what the average cost of insuring a car has been. The one published recently shows that the average cost of car insurance here in the UK in the three-month period to November 2025 has dropped to £726 per annum. This is a significant fall of £111 per annum in comparison with a year ago. That equates to a reduction of 13%.
You may be aware that a large number of factors affect how much an insurance company charges you to insure your car. For instance, your age, where you live, the make and model of car, your driving history and how many miles you do in your car each year. After all, if you travel 30,000 miles a year in your car you are more likely to be involved in a road traffic accident than if you drove 3,000 miles per annum.
It will probably not come as a surprise for you to read that younger drivers, on average, pay more to insure their cars than an older, more experienced motorist. For example, A 17 year old paid an average of £1,932 per annum, an 18 year old an average of £2,262 per annum and a 50 to 59 year old an average of £547 per annum. As you can see, there is a huge difference between the average premiums paid by young and mature drivers.
Location is another factor insurance companies take into consideration when deciding how much to charge you for your car insurance. The cheapest region to live in the UK and own and insure a car is the South West with premiums averaging £500.00 per annum with that being £65 per annum less on average than 12 months ago. The most expensive region is Inner London with premiums averaging £1,119 per annum.
